AGM and Elections – 3rd May

AGM and Elections meeting called to order, 3rd May at 1830, by Club President Luke Quigley.

Quorum: 49

  1. Changes in Constitution

Luke introduces the AGM and elections by firstly discussing the changes to the constitution. This must be voted in favour by 2/3 of members present in order to successfully change our policy. The current committee had proposed the following 4 changes, each were described by Luke and voted according:

  • Rename the position of Ordinary Member to Club Representative

The committee felt the new name was more appropriate to the role that these members have within the club

The name sounds more official to people not associated with the Badminton Club

Voted: 49 yes, 0 no, 0 abstain

This will be updated by Luke in the constitution

  • Altering the entry requirements of the Press and Publicity Officers to ensure that they must run as a pair.

The committee felt that the role would be a lot more flexible to undertake if 2 members were guaranteed to be in the position.

The role of updating the mailing list is an extensive one – guaranteeing 2 people to do this task would make it far easier.

Voted: 49 yes, 0 no, 0 abstain

This will be updated by Luke in the constitution

  • Updating and correcting terminology to replace outdated information (such as changing the College Activator to Fixture Coordinator)

This is mainly an administrative alteration, to change words to fit more appropriately with current practices of the club and YUSU

Voted: 49 yes, 0 no, 0 abstain

This will be updated by Luke in the constitution

  • “16.4 An independent coach must be present at the trials for the university team at the start of the academic year to ensure impartiality and an expert’s opinion in the team’s selection. The subsequent employment of a coach to train the team and/or club is at the discretion of the current year’s committee. Any coach employed by the club must satisfy the following requirements: They must have at least Level 2 coaching qualification, as governed by Badminton England. They cannot be a student at the University of York.”

Lucy Sharp (previous Ladies Captain) raised the issue of the availability of the coach at the time. Charlotte Whiting (previous Team President) explained that the change has been brought about due to issues with the previous team section process preventing bias. This will be selected by the current committee and only be made present at initial trials. This cannot be an ex student and will only be present to offer advice to the Captains and Team President.

Voted: 46 yes, 2 no, 1 abstain

This will be updated by Luke in the constitution
